A memorial service was held
on August 5, 1997 (the 35th anniversary of Marilyn's passing)
at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
Entertainment Weekly has issued a "special collector's
issue" titled The 100 Greatest Movie Stars of All
Time. This issue features Marilyn on the cover in a
color picture by Bert Stern, and will be on newsstands through
January 15, 1997.
Playboy magazine
has Marilyn on the cover of the
January 1997 issue, with a large pictorial tribute, The Nude
Marilyn. The sixteen-page pictorial includes images by
Milton Greene,
Tom
Kelley, Earl
Moran, Bert Stern,
and others; several are previously unpublished. This issue
includes a beautifully printed foldout. The cover picture is
by Greene. Most remarkable is a digital separation of one of
the images from a double exposure by Kelley. Don't miss this
issue. There is also a picture of Marilyn in the Dear
Playboy column of the April issue. These issues are

Dance Ink
magazine for Spring 1996 (v.7 no.1) has two full-page pictures
by photographer Roy Schatt showing Marilyn at Child's Restaurant
in New York City, 1955.
The May/June 1997 issue of American Photo is dedicated
to Marilyn. This issue includes a portfolio of full-page and
double-page MM photographs by prominent photographers, and many of
them are previously unpublished. It is on sale through June 24,
1997.
MM's
gown auctioned On June 8, 1997, one of Marilyn's gowns from
How to Marry a Millionaire was auctioned for $57,000.
The back cover of George, July 1997,
features a full page color picture of Marilyn in an
advertisement for Mercedes Benz.
Marilyn is on the cover of the October 1997 issue of Worth, a financial
magazine. Andrew Tobias writes about Marilyn and You: How
investors can get intimate with Monroe, Bogart, Einstein,
and JFK.
Vanity Fair for November 1997 has an article about
the story behind The Dark Side of Camelot, the new
book about the Kennedys. It includes details about the
Monroe/Kennedy forged documents recently profiled on ABC's
20/20. Reproductions of the forged documents and several
pictures of Marilyn are featured.
Time for October 6, 1997 and The New
Yorker for November 3, 1997 also have items about the
Monroe/Kennedy forged documents.
Marilyn is also on the cover of the October 1997 issue of
Ocean Drive magazine; the Summer 1997 issue of
World Wide Web Directory; as well as the current
British edition of Elle.
The December 1997 issue of Autograph Collecting
features a very interesting letter written by Norma Jeane in
1946; she writes about her divorce from Jim Dougherty,
modeling, and her early days at Fox (including her anticipated
"screen name", Clare Norman). The feature includes four
pictures of Norma Jeane from this period, as well as a
facsimile of two pages from the six page letter; and a
facsimile of an early contract. The accompanying article
is well written.
The December 1997 issue of Collecting
has Marilyn on the cover, and a brief item inside about
collecting MM autographs. There is also a 1962 picture of
Marilyn with Jose Bolanos.
Marilyn: 35th Anniversary Edition by Jay Harrison has
been released in time for the 35th anniversary of Marilyn's
death. Published by CLB and distributed by BHB International,
Inc, this is a large format, glossy book with lots of
photographs; many standard MM pictures, but quite a few
uncommon.
