On August 5th, Marilyn Remembered will be holding its 15th Annual Memorial Service of Marilyn on the 35th year of her passing. We will be holding the service (inside the chapel where Marilyn was eulogized in 1962), at 11:00 AM. Some of the guest speakers will include Evelyn Moriarity (a MR member), Mickey Song (ditto), and hopefully Susan Strasberg and Shelley Winters who have been contacted and possibly Billy Wilder (yet to contacted).Westwood Memorial Park is working with Marilyn Remembered in helping us to give Marilyn a deserving tribute to her life with dignity, respect, and most of all love.
We are expecting a crowd of 500+, and LA being the media town that it is, national coverage is expected. Westwood is erecting shade tents and an additional sound system for the attendees unable to sit in the chapel (which holds approxitmately 90).
I am sure that there are many other Marilyn fans who would like to attend. We are expecting the fan clubs from Australia, Germany and England, plus many from the US.
Westwood Memorial Park is located at 1218 Glendon Avenue, LA CA 90024 and their phone is (310) 474-1579 or (800) 966-5113. Jody E. White is the Manager and knows that I am posting this information on the net. She will be glad to assist anyone interest in attending.
Greg Schreiner, president of Marilyn Remembered, can be reached at 1237 Carmona Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90019.
Just a update on the new happenings about the service.Unfortunately, Shelley Winters said that she would be unable to speak or attend the service, as it brings up too many memories. Susan Strasberg is 99.99% confirmed, (as she has spoken at the 25th and 30th anniversary services. Mr. Wilder has not yet responded.
Confrimed at so far are: Evelyn Moriarity, Donald Spoto, Bebe Goddard and George Barris. Since we usually don't know everyone who will be there until the night before, I will be sure and keep you posted.
Westwood Memorial Park has gone above and beyond the call of duty in assisting us. They are renting parking lots for attendees, but since parking is at a premium here in LA I advise that
ANYONE ATTENDING THE SERVICE, PLEASE CARPOOL AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
I would recommend that people should arrive at least an hour to thirty minutes before the service, as this will allow them to pay their respects before the service at 11:00. They can also pay their respects to Grace Goddard and Ana Lower, who are also intered there. I will be happy to help anyone with any questions as to locations, etc.
While I don't know if any video taping of the service will be permitted, I'm sure that there will be lots of photographs that I will send you for posting on the web. Since the media has been contacted, I'm sure there will be coverage both print and electronic. I will send what I can.
If anyone wants to send flowers, please call Westwood Memorial Park for the correct address, they will ensure that orders are handled properly. (800) 966-5113
Parisian Florists located at 7528 W. Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, CA 90046 (213) 876-3220 or (310) 271-7677 is where I'm getting several arrangements. While this is NOT a plug for the florist, it is the florist that Joe DiMaggio used for the 20+ years that flowers were deliverd to Marilyn's crypt weekly.
